The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) and Florida Tax Collectors are critical partners with Donate Life Florida. Driver license offices serve as the primary point of contact for more than 95% of Floridians in making donor designations, while obtaining or renewing their driver license at their local driver license office. In addition, individuals are also able to contribute to the “Organ/Tissue Donation Education Trust Fund” during both driver license and motor vehicle transactions; all money received from this fund is distributed to Donate Life Florida and goes direct to funding and maintaining Florida’s donor registry database and donation education initiatives.
Donate Life Florida members work year-round with our driver license office partners, in efforts to increase donor registration rates among driver license customers with all DMV and tax collector offices throughout the state. Staff training is provided to all driver license office employees on their life-saving role in asking all driver license customers the required driver license application question “Are you interested in becoming an organ donor?” Additionally, during April for National Donate Life Month, Donate Life Florida hosts its annual campaign driver license campaign, targeted to both increase organ donor registration rates via in-office driver license transactions and also increase voluntary contributions raised to the “Organ/Tissue Donation Education Fund.” General donation education information can also be found in driver license offices year-round, reminding customers of their ability to save lives by saying “Yes!” to registering as an organ and tissue donor during their driver license transaction or online at www.DonateLifeFlorida.org.
